A fantastic day of sport kicked off the first day of rides at the UK’s new Rushford Endurance venue, which today hosted CEI2* 120km and CEI1* 100km competition across amazing Norfolk landscapes.
Hamdan Ahmad Al Marri (UAE) had a textbook ride on F3 Endurance Stable’s Vik Des Rochers to take the CEI2* 120km with ease. Leading easily throughout the whole ride, the astounding 13-year-old grey gelding by Eclat De La Pierre ate up the course, looking relaxed and rhythmical to vet-in cleanly well ahead of the competition. Speaking after the ride, Al Marri said, “It was a nice ride – we missed this place, it’s been three years since we’ve been here and we love it. We’re coming back for the August ride and you will see this horse again there, he is a great horse.”
Teammates Salem Hamad Saeed Al Kitbi (UAE) and Rashed Ahmad Alketbi (UAE) came in together for second and third place with Deal Finish and Bailany, with Bruna Pujols Aumatell (ESP) and Dourbie D Aqui AA in fourth. The highest placed British riders were Lauren Mills with HS Jamal, and Nicola Thorne on Dayway Stream Bliss, finishing fifth and sixth respectively.
Saeed Salem Almuhairi (UAE) triumphed in the CEI1* 100km with M7 Endurance Stable’s chestnut mare Cr Crispy. The 8-year-old mare shows plenty of promise and, speaking after the ride, Almuhairi said, “It was a great race – and it was competitive between us! [Cr Crispy] was great today, and I think she will be a champion one day.” In second place, Manohar Singh Khinv Singh (IND) and Epal De Montegut were followed closely by compatriot Damodar Singh Banne Singh (IND) and Ellora De Lozelle.
Tomorrow, Sunday 19 June, competition continues with the CEI3* 160km headline class, as well as CEIYJ2* 120km and CEIYJ1* 100km rides for young riders.
Nicholas Brooks-Ward, Event Director, commented, “It’s been a fantastic first day of rides with the competitors hugely enjoying our new base at Rushford. The tracks have been expertly laid out, and the land of the Rushford Estate is at the epicentre of all the loops, providing the perfect base for all these rides. We look forward to another great day of endurance tomorrow.”
